Don’t Fall for a Junk Car Scam

When searching around for a buyer for your junk car, you may run across some deals that almost seem too good to be true.

Maybe someone is advertising they’ll pay thousands of dollars for your junk car, but once you call them they lowball you. Or, even worse, you take their quote, they show up to get the car, and only give you a fraction of the agreed upon price!

Junk car scams are very common and we don’t want you to fall for them! While we promise to give you a fair price and guarantee a good experience, we also know you may be looking at other options. So here are some things to be wary of when trying to sell your junk car.

  1. Check out reviews! This can be a great place to see if others have been satisfied with the experience they’ve had with the company. If the company doesn’t have reviews on their website, check out Yelp or Google Reviews for an honest reaction.

  2. Avoid Price Changes. When you get a quote from a junk car buyer, they should honor that quote. If a company or private buyer says they’ll give you a certain amount for the car, but show up and only offer you half of that, walk away. It is unprofessional and a scam. Also, if you call a buyer and they say they need to see and judge the car first, go elsewhere. Professional junk car buyers will give you a quote over the phone and honor that quote.

  3. Say No to Coupons. A popular junk car scam is for buyers to offer coupons or vouchers for cash value. This may seem like a good deal, but often these coupons are not worth the paper they are printed on. While it may seem like you’re getting an equivalent value, these coupons often come with very difficult stipulations and expiration dates. You’re better off getting a full cash payment than taking any amount of voucher from a buyer.

  4. Last Minute Fees. You may have set up a whole deal with a company, are happy with the price, and have a meeting time and place. But then they show up and demand you pay them for towing your vehicle! Or they charge a pickup fee that wasn’t mentioned earlier. If you run into a business like this, walk away. Reputable junk car buyers will tow for free, or at the very least be up front about the towing fees. At [BRAND], we always tow your car for free, we guarantee!
